Frequently asked questions

Which exams and question pools are included?

All three US amateur radio license classes, using the current public question pools:

  • Technician (Element 2): 2026-2030 pool, valid July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2030
  • General (Element 3): 2023-2027 pool, valid July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2027
  • Amateur Extra (Element 4): 2024-2028 pool, valid July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028

Published errata are applied, and questions withdrawn by the pool committee are removed.

What happens when the General pool changes on July 1, 2027?

A new General pool takes effect on July 1, 2027. We will update the app with the new General pool when it takes effect on that date. Until then, the app covers the current 2023-2027 General pool, which is used for exams through June 30, 2027. The same applies to future Technician and Extra pool changes.

How do I reset my progress?

Open Settings ▸ Reset Progress in the app. You can reset one class or all of them. This can't be undone. Deleting the app also erases all progress.

How do I get Dipole Prep on a new iPhone?

Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, not to a device. On the new iPhone, sign in with the same Apple Account, open the App Store, tap your profile picture, then Purchased, and download Dipole Prep again. If Family Sharing is on, family members can download it from their own Purchased list.

Progress is stored on each device, so a new iPhone starts fresh unless you restored it from a backup of your old one.

Is the app accessible?

Dipole Prep is designed to support VoiceOver, Dynamic Type (larger text), Dark Mode, Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion. Figures are vector drawings that stay sharp when zoomed. If something doesn't work well with your accessibility settings, please tell us so we can fix it.

Can I study in Spanish?

Yes. Every explanation and the glossary are available in English and Spanish, and you can switch at any time. The questions themselves are shown in English, because the official exams are given in English.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Everything is included in the app and works offline.

Is Dipole Prep official?

No. Dipole Prep is an independent study app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, examining organization or Volunteer Examiner Coordinator. To take the real exam, look for a Volunteer Examiner session near you or online.
